KETTERING — A bully/safety hotline, started at Kettering Fairmont High several years ago, is being expanded to the entire city school district.

The system allows anyone to anonymously report a problem at a city school.

Administrators are encouraging parents and students from all schools in the district — and even members of the community — to utilize the hotline to address any safety concern. All calls go to a team, which decides whether the issue is a police or school concern.

Dan VonHandorf, director of student services, Kettering City Schools, said, “It’s great because we use that information and we jump on that right away, we get an immediate notification that someone’s used the tip line, really helps us to act on things in school.”

VonHandorf told News Center 7’s Natalie Jovonovich, “Our job is to keep kids safe, and have a great environment for students, and this is a great tool that will help us do that.”

The district will be hosting events all month on the subject of bullying awareness all month. For those who live in Kettering who want to report a concern, the hotline number is 643-4444, ext. 7.
