DAYTON — In Columbus Tuesday, driving instructors from around the state met with the Ohio Department of Public Safety to help make roads safer for young drivers.
With proms and graduations coming up, Jeff Caldwell, with Professional Driving Systems, encouraged parents to talk to their teens about road safety.
Caldwell’s driver training business has instructors with a background in law enforcement.
“We know what the end result of bad decisions looks like, we know the impact it has on the families,” Caldwell said.
In the state of Ohio, teens must complete 32 hours of driver training at a certified driving school.

After they finish the course they then need 50 hours of driving with a parent or legal guardian before they can take the test.
Caldwell said parents should talk with their children about the “what if’s”.
“Jimmy, you’re out with some of your friends, it’s prom time. There’s probably going to be some people drinking. What’re you going to do if one of your friends gets in the car and they bring some beer in your car? What are you going to about that? How are you going to handle that? Are you strong enough to standup and say no?” Was an example of a conversation he gave.
Professional Driving Systems holds free monthly classes for parents to know what the rules are.
