Driver crashes after leading troopers on short vehicle chase through Dayton

DAYTON — UPDATE: @ 10 a.m.

A driver led troopers on a vehicle chase through Dayton that ended in a crash Monday overnight.

Just after 4:30 a.m., a trooper from the Dayton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for a speed violation, according to a spokesperson for OSP. The vehicle was going 67 miles per hour in a posted 35 zone.

The vehicle failed to stop and troopers began to pursue the vehicle.

Minutes later, a two-vehicle crash was located at the intersection of Philadelphia Drive and Bertram Avenue in Dayton.

The suspect vehicle, a 2015 Kia Optima driven by 20-year-old Marissa Applin, was southbound on Philadelphia Drive and ran a stop sign and struck another vehicle in the intersection at Bertram Drive, the spokesperson said.

After the crash, Applin fled the scene of the crash on foot.

A K-9 was requested to the scene for a track, and Applin was located and taken into custody without incident, according to the spokesperson.

The driver of the vehicle that was struck was taken to Miami Valley Hospital wit non-life-threatening injuries.

Applin was booked in jail on an active warrant.

She is currently booked in the Montgomery County Jail.

Charges with be forthcoming after review of the prosecutor’s office, the spokesperson said.
