Hundreds of people visit Young’s Christmas Tree Farm in Yellow Springs as they get into the holiday spirit

YELLOW SPRINGS — Crowds roam the fields at Young’s Christmas Tree Farm on Black Friday as families get ready for the holiday season.

“This is by far our busiest day ever,” said Ben Young, owner of Carl and Dorothy Young’s Christmas Tree Farm.

Families have been getting their Christmas trees from Young’s Farm for generations.

“We have customers that have been coming here for 10 to 15 years,” Young said.

“Our customers have been bringing their kids and now their grandchildren, it’s a multigenerational thing. We have multigenerational employees.”

The traditions at Young’s Farm began around 1995, the year the family sold some of their first trees.

Now the farm holds about 30,000 Christmas trees that range from 1-10 years old.

Young said it takes about seven to eight years for a Christmas tree to grow and each time one is cut down, they go and plant a new one to keep the trees growing.

“We expect to be open for at least a couple of weeks,” he said.

There is a certain amount of trees that get sold each year depending on how many are available and once they run out the farm is finished with its sales for the season.

Young’s Farm has adapted for COVID-19 as have many other businesses during the pandemic. The owners created an outdoor space for customers to pay so they do not have to go inside. Employees are wearing masks and customers are able to be in an outdoor space with fresh air as they pick their Christmas tree.

With the nice weather Young said today has been a good day for people to get out of the house after Thanksgiving to work off that turkey and cut down a tree.
