Downed power lines blamed for power outages in Montgomery, Greene

Collapsed power lines -- because of an equipment failure in one location and fallen trees in another -- knocked out power to an estimated 238 Dayton Power & Light customers Monday afternoon.

Crews are on scene at both sites and electric service for those affected areas is expected to be restored between 9:30 and 10 p.m., said Kelly Millhouse, DP&L operations director.

In Greene County, trees in ground made soft because the rain in the area fell onto a span of wires in the Yellow Springs and Clifton areas, cutting off power to 207 customers about 5 p.m., she said.

In Montgomery County, a broken brace on a pole that holds a span of wires in the air failed in Vandalia sometime after 3:30 p.m., causing an outage for 31 customers in an area that extends to Barbarosa Drive and Fairsmith Avenue in Harrison Twp., Millhouse said.
