SPRINGFIELD — Wednesday morning’s mass shooting in Springfield is part of a local trend police have seen where a small number of people are responsible for a number of recent shootings, according to Springfield Police Chief Lee Garf.

The shooting, which injured six people, caught the attention of state leaders. On Wednesday, Gov. Mike DeWine said he fears cities will see increased violence this summer.

“What happened earlier in this morning in Springfield is a tragedy,” DeWine said.

DeWine went on to say that the gun violence was not unique to Springfield and that it’s seen in cities across the state.

DeWine called on the Ohio General Assembly to pass tougher measures on crimes committed with guns.
