Deputies investigate death of male inmate at Clark Co. jail

SPRINGFIELD — UPDATE @ 11:20 a.m. (Sept. 30):

Clark County officials said a man found dead at the Clark County Jail Thursday night hung himself in his jail cell.

Deputies discovered the man while doing night checks and began administering CPR, however were not able to save the man, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies are investigating after a male inmate was found dead in the Clark County Jail Thursday night.

INITIAL REPORT:

Clark County Jail Administrator Lt. Mike Young said the deceased man was discovered around 11:30 p.m. during the first check of cells by third-shift deputies.

Young said at this time the cause and manor of the death is still under investigation, but there were no obvious signs of foul play.

The identity of the man was not available, pending notification of family.

More information is expected to be released later this morning.
