Dayton — Taevian Harris was sentenced to 20 years in prison Tuesday for the 2017 murder of Deandre Thomas and firing shots at police officers as he ran from the scene. The shooting occurred on August 13, 2017, and Harris was arrested on September 22, 2017.

In March, Harris was directly indicted on a bill of information to counts of involuntary manslaughter and felonious assault.
On March 14, he pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter; felonious assult (two counts); and weapons under disability.
Deandre Thomas was 26 years old and left behind three sons under the age of ten.
