Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist McCall Vrydaghs says the weather forecast for this weekend’s air show will be fantastic.

McCall says there are things that not only the pilot but air show and organizers have to think about when we are talking about numerous planes being up in the sky and thousands of spectators.

Safety is big thing they are think about including these three things:

  • Needing a dry runway
  • Light winds/crosswinds
  • High clouds and good visibility

Dick Reynolds, Trustee for the Centerpoint Energy Air Show, said these three things are key to having a successful air show.

“For a formation act like a major military demonstration team, like the Blue Angels or the Thunderbirds,” he said, “they have ceiling minimums and visibility minimums that based on the profile of their act as well as the need to see other aircraft for when they separate and rejoin.”

Reynolds says if they can’t complete the maneuvers as well as the separations and rejoins as part of their act, then it’s a less effective performance.
