A house fire displaced residents Wednesday night in the 4900 block of Scothills Drive in Clayton.

Crews were called on a report of a detached garage on fire, but it actually was an attached garage that damaged the main part of the home, Clayton Fire Chief Brian Garver said.

“It’s pretty extensive damage to the garage, smoke and heat damage in the kitchen and front room,” Garver said.

A pet cat is missing, but Garver said it’s possible the cat escaped when the doors were opened.

The fire is not considered suspicious, but its cause is under investigation. A damage estimate was not available.

The fire department contacted the American Red Cross to help the homeowner.
