Bellbrook-Sugarcreek schools headed back to class Monday.
Other city schools like West Carrollton, Fairborn, Miamisburg and Jefferson Twp., were supposed to start Monday as well. However, they pushed their first day back to Sept 8.
Bellbrook-Sugarcreek schools have put out information on how they will kick-off their school year.
STUDENTS IN GRADES 1-12:
- Phase-in start, students with last names A-K will begin Monday. Students with last names starting with L-Z will begin Tuesday. They also had the option to start online.
- Wednesday is the off day...this day is for teachers to work one on one or in groups with students -students A-K will then go back to school Thursday. And L-Z will go back Friday.
- The goal is to have all in-person learning students back together by September 8.
- Students are to wear masks, complete a wellness test before leaving home and stay home if they’re feeling sick.
STUDENTS IN KINDERGARTEN:
- First day of school is the 21st for students last names A-K -first day of school is the 25th for students last name L-Z -kids will be online one day a week and in class one day a week -Wednesday’s reserved for teacher 1 on 1 time
- For all grades, all kids in the same household will be on the same schedule, as determined by the oldest students last name.
Third grader Henry Cline, like many other kids, walked through the open school doors for the first time since March on Monday with his mask and hand sanitizer.
“I’ve been looking forward to actually be learning in the classroom,” Cline said.
About 22 percent of the student body decided to do online learning for the first semester.
“A typical day in an A-typical year,” Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Superintendent Doug Cozad said. “We’ve done everything possible to make it a successful and safe environment to have a great start of the school year. Obviously safety is our first priority, but we also want to make it enjoyable.”
Bellbrook-Sugarcreek is one of the few schools starting with a phased-in plan.
“Our goal is not to just come back to school, but to stay in school,” Cozad said.
