Community gathers to honor man killed by Trotwood police

TROTWOOD — A candlelight vigil was held Monday evening to remember Andrew Hogan, 25, who was shot and killed by Trotwood Police Friday night following a shoplifting complaint.

Despite the freezing weather, friends, family and community members gathered outside of the 700 block of Kelford Place, which is where the incident took place.

She also said he was someone who loved church, fellowship, and family gatherings, and he would have wanted this to bring the community together.

Hogan’s mother, Bernette Hogan, said that her son was an energetic, giving person and an inspiration to young people.

“I know that this is going to bring us, as a people, all nations together, because Andrew would want that,” she said.

Three Trotwood officers are now on administrative leave for their involvement in the shooting.
