CENTERVILLE — One the of area’s biggest July 4th celebrations has been taking place in Centerville, and most of its residents are thrilled to have the event back after a year off due to COVID-19.

Amy Thompson, of Centerville, said, “I think we got here a little before 7, we’ve got some boy scouts that helped with the 5k, they did water for all the 5k runners and they get set up pretty early and we have a band student that’s in the parade as well.”

Thompson said she’s used to seeing chairs up out well before the Americana Parade. But, this year, the street was started to fill up with chairs two weeks before the festivities even began. She said the past year and half has made her appreciate having things like this back.

“My daughter is actually out in Colorado and she was crying to me yesterday because they have a no-burn policy right now from the droughts out there. They’re not even having fireworks,” Thompson said.

Sky7 showed thousands of people flooded downtown Centerville to see the parade. Some things like the street fair were canceled because of a lack of venders applying to be a part of the festival. But there was still plenty of food trucks to satisfy parade-goers.

Now, having had a taste of the parade and festivities, it’s made people that much more excited for the event in 2022.
