CBC joins ‘Blood Emergency Readiness Corps’ to help supply blood outside the region

DAYTON — The Community Blood Center has joined 30 other blood centers across the nation to form a Blood Emergency Readiness Corps.

The alliance will help ensure CBC’s regional blood supply following multiple injuries and mass transfusion events, according to a release.

It will also allow CBC to provide crisis support outside the region.

They currently provide blood products in 17 counties in western Ohio and eastern Indiana.

“Our mission as the region’s exclusive blood supplier does not change. What will change is our ability to better handle events in our area that require many transfusions within a short period of time. Our collaboration with BERC helps provide that assurance,” CBC Chief Operating Officer Diane Wilson said in a release.

Blood centers that are a part of the Blood Emergency Readiness Corps will store extra units on a rotating “on-call” schedule to be available for other members of the corps to use in the case of an emergency.

CBC’s main office is located on South Main Street in Dayton.
