‘The car is torn up, torn to pieces;’ 911 calls describe injury crash in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — 911 audio calls obtained by News Center 7 reveal the moment witnesses saw a crash at the intersection of S. Limestone and E. John Streets Saturday night in Springfield.

Officers and medics responded to scene at around 8:45 p.m., Springfield Police dispatchers confirmed to News Center 7.

“A car just went through a light, right off the road and hit the sign off Family Dollar,” the caller told dispatchers. “The car is torn up. Torn to pieces.”

The caller described one vehicle was involved in the crash.

Another caller said the driver was seriously hurt.

“There’s blood on his head and blood on his arm,” a caller told dispatchers blood was also coming out of the victim’s mouth.

One caller described smoke coming out of the car and another said they heard a loud boom saying the crash was “bad.”

“We heard this big crash,” the caller said to dispatchers.

Troopers from the Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway provided mutual aid.

Medics transported the person to the hospital, according to initial scanner traffic.
