WAYNE COUNTY — Two people were arrested and multiple weapons and cash seized after a complaint about car break-ins led to a high-speed chase outside of Richmond.
Adolfo Armenta, 18, of Richmond, and his 15-year-old passenger were arrested after the pursuit, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office. Both went to the hospital for treatment of their injuries after the pursuit ended in a crash.

Wayne County deputies responded to the 200 block of Woodlawn Avenue just west of Richmond around 3:45 a.m. Thursday after getting a report that two people were breaking into vehicles in the neighborhood.
“The officers were flagged down by a neighborhood resident who point out a gold colored SUV and indicated that the two suspicious people were in that vehicle,” the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “Prior to officers attempting to stop the vehicle, the driver of the vehicle began to flee the area at a high rate of speed.”
The vehicle continued fleeing from officers and got onto I-70 east, deputies said.
“In their continued attempt to evade the police, the suspects collided with the rear of a semi, lost control and struck a guardrail, then entered the median striking the cable barrier before coming to rest near the 152 mile marker,” deputies said in a statement.
Deputies ended up finding two handguns, a BB gun, cash and several sets of keys that were in a backpack.
The sheriff’s office said the SUV involved in the chase had previously been stolen from a house on South Roundbarn Road in the county.
Armenta is facing several felony charges including resisting law enforcement and the 15-year-old was taken into custody for delinquency, according to deputies.
