Campers outside Sugarcreek GameStop waiting for hard-to-get game systems

SUGARCREEK TWP., Greene County — Two people spent the overnight hours in a tent outside the Sugarcreek Twp. GameStop waiting for the store to open Friday morning.

Both said they decided to camp out in line to hopefully get their hands on a PlayStation 5 video game system, one of the seasons high-demand tech gifts. Both the new Sony PlayStation 5 and Microsoft Xbox Series X were released earlier this month, but have been difficult to snag with the consoles selling out within minutes.

A sign on the Sugarcreek store showed the retailer anticipated having two PS5s and six Xbox Series X consoles.

But the two outside GameStop will have to wait overnight again tonight as the game retailer is one of several stores that is waiting to open until Friday morning. It’s a departure from what had turned into Thankgiving Day openings in recent years. Many retailers announced later openings as COVID-19 gripped the country.
