Boxing showcase featuring Ohio champs coming to Dayton

Boxer Chris Pearson and father plan to open local gym

A heavyweight boxing champion and a current competitor today joined forces to highlight boxing in Dayton.

Buster Douglas — internationally known as the man who knocked out Mike Tyson — appeared with rising boxer Chris Pearson and his father to promote boxing in the city.

“It’s just giving back, you know, reaching back and supporting those who not necessarily supported me coming up, but just giving back. That’s what it’s all about,” said Douglas, a native of Columbus.

He and current boxer and Dayton native Chris Pearson are working together to put on a boxing showcase in Dayton.

Pearson and his father, Milton, say they plan to open a gym on Salem Avenue in Dayton next month.

“I always tell people boxing isn’t dead, it’s just asleep. And we’re just giving it that nudge to say it’s time to get up,” Milton Pearson said.

The boxing showcase is scheduled for mid-March at Trent Arena.
