Boonshoft’s Odyssey the Otter predicts 6 more weeks of winter

DAYTON — It was a different Groundhog Day at The Boonshoft Museum of Discovery, its first since the death of Quillam the Hedgehog, who was used in place of a groundhog for years to predict how much of the winter season was left.

Instead, the museum used its mascot Odyssey the Otter to tell those in the Miami Valley how long is remaining in the winter season.

“My dearest friends I do apologize for the blustery news,” Odyssey the Otter announced in a proclamation inside the lobby of the museum, moments after seeing his shadow.

Odyssey the Otter announced that the Miami Valley still has six weeks left of winter.

“Unfortunately it looks like we’re going to have a little bit more winter,” museum officials said.

Odyssey’s prediction echoes that of Pennsylvania’s Punxsutawney Phil.

On Tuesday morning, Punxsutawney Phil came out of his burrow at Gobbler’s Knob and saw his shadow, predicting six more weeks of winter.
