Crews called to fourth-floor fire at Lakewoods Apartments in Dayton

DAYTON — UPDATE @ 9:35 p.m.

A fire in a fourth-floor unit at the Lakewoods Apartments tonight was quickly extinguished by Dayton firefighters.

The 900 block of Wilmington Avenue remains closed to traffic while crews are on scene.

Firefighters were going through the building floor-by-floor, top down, to systematically check to make sure there are no other issues. They also were making entry into fourth-floor units to check on residents; however, there have been no reports of any injuries.

Dayton fire officials are expected to release further information tonight on the possible cause of the fire.

FIRST REPORT

Crews were called tonight to a fire inside one unit at the Lakewoods Apartments.

The fire was reported shortly after 9 p.m. at an apartment on the fourth floor of the building at 980 Wilmington Ave.

Residents were being evacuated.
