$2,000 Stimulus Payments Bill: Here’s how Miami Valley Congressmen voted

All four of the Miami Valley’s Congressmen voted against increasing direct stimulus payments to $2,000 during a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives Monday afternoon, according to online Congressional records.

Warren Davidson, Mike Turner, Jim Jordan and Steve Chabot were among the 134 representatives who voted against the legislation, which is known as the CASH Act.

The measure passed the House by a 275-134 vote with 21 Republicans not casting a vote. However, some Republicans did back the bill, which saw support from 44 Republican members of the House.

The bill now moves to the Senate, where it is unclear whether a vote on the increased payments will happen.

Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) has said he supports increasing the direct payments.

Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) has not said whether he would support or oppose raising the direct payments to $2,000, however a spokesperson for his office said the Senator would consider the legislation if it goes to a vote on the Senate floor.

The Senate is scheduled to convene on Capitol Hill Tuesday afternoon.

The call for the increase in direct payments comes after a push from President Donald Trump, who criticized the recently signed stimulus and government spending package.

The President has said the current $600 direct payments were not enough.
