2-year-old Urbana child approved for kidney transplant

URBANA — A two-year-old girl from Urbana who has been on dialysis since she was five days old is now approved for a kidney transplant.

Emma Allen, who was diagnosed with end-stage renal failure, is listed to receive the transplant at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, according to a release from the Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA).

Emma’s family and local volunteers are trying to raise an estimated $50,000 for COTA in honor of Team Emma to assist with a lifetime of transplant-related expenses, the release said.

The news of Emma being approved for a kidney transplant comes just in time for National Kidney Awareness month, which is in March.

“The family and friends of Emma want to encourage everyone to support COTA for Team Emma A. to help give Emma a second chance at life,” said Jessica Hicks, COTA Community Coordinator.

“100% of the funds donated to COTA for Team Emma A. assist with transplant-related expenses.”
