Two Lewisburg men accused of holding three children at gunpoint during a robbery at a Kettering apartment and also attempting to break into an Oakwood home were indicted on multiple felonies this afternoon.
Keyon Taylor, 19, and Blade Root, 18, were indicted on charges of aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery, kidnapping, attempt to commit aggravated burglary, burglary, grand theft of a gun and theft in connection to the crimes reported in the early morning hours of Aug. 7.
Police responded to the 2200 block of East David Road around 4:15 a.m. to the apartments near the intersection of Bigger Road, according to records.
Taylor and Root are accused of entering the apartment through an unlocked window.
“Suspects entered...armed, pointing handguns at 3 juvenile victims attempt to steal items,” court records read. “The family dog chased them out of the house, with only a bag of chips taken.”
A Kettering police report shows three girls ages 10 to 15 were inside the apartment. It was not clear if Taylor or Root knew anyone who was there.
Taylor and Root had matched the description of suspects from an attempted burglary at a home in the 200 block of West Thruston Boluevard less than two hours before.
Surveillance video showed who police said were Taylor and root wearing surgical masks attempting to open a patio door at the home.
“One of the males is heard saying that it requires a passcode, appearing to refer to the door look,” Oakwood police wrote in a report. “When the subjects realized they cannot enter the patio door, they leave the area.”
Later in the morning, Oakwood police received a call that someone found three guns and a purse in a flower bed on Thruston Boulevard. While the person was reporting finding the guns to Oakwood police, a car that came back to Root’s father drove by asking about the weapons and then drove off.
Kettering and Oakwood police worked with Lewisburg police, who were familiar with both Taylor and Root. Search warrants ended up being served at both of their Lewisburg homes and the two were arrested.
