1 dead, 3 taken to hospital after crash on I-71 in Union Twp.

UNION TOWNSHIP — UPDATE: 10:15 a.m.

One person was killed, and three others were taken to the hospital after two different accidents on Interstate 71 in Union Township early Saturday morning.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers responded to reports of an injury crash on IR 71 southbound at mile post 29 around 1:19 a.m.

The initial report was that a semi struck the rear of a passenger van with occupants being ejected, OSP said.

According to troopers, a semi was southbound on IR 71 and came upon a van that was traveling at a slow speed. The semi struck the rear of the van, ejecting one person from the van.

The person from the van who had been ejected came to rest in the roadway, according to OSP. That person was then struck by a southbound vehicle. The vehicle that struck the ejected person did not stop and has not been identified.

The driver of the van and two passengers were transported to an area hospital. The victim that was ejected from the van was pronounced deceased on scene, OSP said. The driver of the semi was not transported.

The crash is still under investigation at this time.

One woman died, and three others were taken to the hospital after two different accidents on Interstate 71 in Union Township early Saturday morning.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the first crash happened around 1:40 a.m. when a vehicle hit a van on SB-71.

The crash caused one vehicle to spin out and hit a guard rail, ejecting one woman.

After the woman was ejected, another passing vehicle hit her.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, according to OSHP.

There were three other people involved in the crash, and they have all been taken to an area hospital for their injuries.
