1 dead, 21 injured in multi-vehicle crash on I-75 in Lima

ALLEN COUNTY — One person is dead and 21 others were injured in a nine-vehicle crash in Lima Sunday afternoon.

The crash happened on I-75 southbound near mile post 125 around 12:30 p.m., according to the Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

According to troopers, a freightliner semi truck was headed southbound on I-75 when it approached slowed traffic from a separate crash. The semi struck several vehicles, causing a total of nine vehicles to be involved.

Joseph B. Schwarz, age 64, of Fairfield, was pronounced deceased at the scene, OSP said. He was the rear seat passenger in a vehicle involved in the crash.

OSP says 10 people were transported to area hospitals and 11 people were treated at the scene.

OSP says the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
