GREENS FORK, Indiana — The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said one person is dead after their vehicle was struck by a train early Monday morning in Greens Fork, Indiana.
According to release, deputies responded around 5:50am to a car/train collision that happened near South Water Street and West Plum Street.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Tonya Rader, 47, of Lynn, Indiana, was traveling south on Water Street in a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu. The release said for some unknown reason, Rader’s vehicle was struck by the westbound train on the tracks.
Rader was pronounced dead at the scene. According to deputies, Rader is believed to be the only person in the vehicle at the time of the collision. They said It appears she was traveling to a family member’s home in Greens Fork.
An investigation into the circumstances of the collision is being conducted. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is working with Norfolk Southern Railway Corporation and the Wayne County Coroner’s Office.
