Doughnut lovers line up at Kettering’s Krispy Kreme

Last day of operation for East Dorothy Lane location

A line has formed outside the Krispy Kreme, 2001 E. Dorothy Lane, as the store serves up doughnuts for the last time.

The permanent closure of the store was announced earlier this month.

An employee there said this morning they are swamped with customers and a line of people extended outside the entrance.

Store Manager Carl Carlson said it was a “difficult decision” to close the only Dayton-area location for the Winston-Salem, N.C.-based doughnut chain.

There are other locations that will remain open, including retail shops in Cincinnati and Columbus.

The 20 employees at the Kettering store will receive additional pay and the possibility of transferring to another Krispy Kreme location, according to Carlson.

The East Dorothy Lane shop is expected to be open until 10 o’clock tonight.
