DAYTON — Multiple people were detained as part of drug-related search warrants that were conducted in Dayton and Montgomery County Wednesday morning, according to Dayton police.

SWAT units and officers surrounded a house around 6 a.m. in the 300 block of Clover Street in Dayton, Sgt. H. Kelly Hamilton told News Center 7. A second search warrant was conducted simultaneously at another, unspecified location in Montgomery County, he said.

Wednesday’s searches were part of an investigation that started from complaints from neighbors and tips into Miami Valley Crime Stoppers, Hamilton said.

“We did a drug search warrant here with SWAT due to the past criminal record of the suspects inside. And right now, we’re just searching the residence for drugs or money or whatever, guns,” Hamilton said.

Multiple people inside the house on Clover Street were detained and being interviewed by police. Hamilton said “a couple” of those who were detained will likely be arrested and face charges.

The police activity started out with a bang, literally, according to neighbors who were awoken by the SWAT units surrounding the house.

“Nothing but boom, bang and she-bang! It was going crazy. There was lights everywhere. There was trucks everywhere. They were pulling up in yards. And I kept hearing nothing but bang. It was six at a time. And they were going in the house busting windows. It was crazy,” Jackie Lybrand, who lives nearby, told News Center 7.

Hamilton noted SWAT units used tear gas before taking the suspects into custody.

“A lot of tear gas was pumped into (the house),” Hamilton said.

Lybrand passed along her thanks to Dayton police and Hamilton said that was well received.

“I hope we’re making a difference. Tell Jackie we said thanks,” Hamilton said.
