UPDATE @ 2:01 p.m. (June 27): Dionte Evans of Huber Heights has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for killing 21-month-old Keyontae Ellis in 2015.
The sentencing Monday in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court occurred a month and two days since a jury convicted the 23-year-old of murder, involuntary manslaughter and child endangering. The jury acquitted him of defensive murder and felonious assault.
Evans had been accused of killing the son of his then-girlfriend in the apartment they shared in Huber Heights. The boy’s mother called 911 on April 8, 2015, after her child was not breathing.
The child had been left in Evans’ care, and the county coroner’s office ruled the cause of death as blunt force trauma.
