DAYTON — A man reported a group of armed males broke into his house, assaulted and robbed him while his 9-year-old daughter was hiding in a closet.
The alleged home invasion happened after midnight Wednesday in the 3400 block of Lindale Avenue, according to the Dayton police report.
The 34-year-old victim told officers he was in bed sleeping with his 9-year-old daughter when he heard a loud bang in the living room, according to the Dayton police report.
He told police he walked out and saw three to four males who had broken in; one pointed a gun at him and demanded — “Gimme the money! Gimme the money!” — the report states.
The victim reported he got a hold of the gun and struggled with the man. The struggle spilled into the bedroom where the victim was pistol-whipped and a shot was fired.
The victim told officers he stopped struggling when he realized his daughter, who was hiding in the bedroom closet, could be hurt if another shot was fired, according to the report.
Police said there was a bullet lodged in the bedroom wall and a 9mm casing was on the floor. The victim suffered a gash on his head, but he refused medical care.
