Woman dead in S.D. had Huber Heights address

A woman whose last known address was in Huber Heights is dead in Jackson County, S.D., and the sheriff's office there suspects foul play.

The body of Theresa Dashewich, 47, was discovered at about 6 p.m. Wednesday by a traveler who told authorities he pulled off Interstate 90 and saw human feet in a watery culvert, according to the Associated Press and media reports from the region.

Thursday, the state attorney general's office said police are treating Dashewich's death as a murder. Sara Rabern with the South Dakota Attorney General's Office said Dashewich's cause of death or how long she may have been deceased is not being released at this time. She said those details will be made available further on in the investigation.

Anyone with information about her is asked to call the tip line, 605-394-1884.

Dashewich was 5 feet 2 inches tall; weighed 231 pounds. She had brown eyes with short black/ gray hair. Dashewich was wearing a gray Harlem Globetrotter Adidas T-shirt.

Investigators said she might have been traveling along I-90 and frequented truck stops.

Early Friday morning, her family sent WHIO a photo of Theresa Dashewich and offered the following statement:

"Our family is shocked and horrified to learn of Theresa's death. We are confident that the South Dakota police are conducting a complete investigation and will bring her killer to justice. We ask for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."

Rob Dashewich, the woman's brother, said he has talked with authorities in Jackson County about the incident. He declined to say any more than that, citing the fact that the investigation is continuing.

He said it has been many years since he's seen his sister.

"She is a free spirit, if you will," he said.
