INITIAL REPORT:

Police have started a homicide investigation for a woman, 72, found shot to death in her home on Fernwood Avenue in Dayton.

Lt. Mark Ponichtera said a family member discovered the woman in the residence in the 300 block of Fernwood Avenue and called police about 3:10 p.m.,

Because the investigation is still in its infancy, the lieutenant would not or could not say how many times the woman had been shot or where in the house she was discovered.

He also could not say whether the shooter had forcibly entered the home.

An official with the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office said that office would not be releasing the woman’s name tonight and that an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
