UPDATE at 10:40 a.m.: Michael Farrar, 32, has been identified as the victim shot to death on Banker Place.
Farrar, a Dayton resident, lived on North Broadway Street, according to the Montgomery County Coroner's Office.
UPDATE at 7:45 a.m.: Dayton police said the victim was shot numerous times and died at the scene.
Sgt. Richard Blommel said there were numerous witnesses to the shooting. They were outside an apartment where illegal liquor was being sold at the time.
Those people fled the scene when officers arrived, but some have contacted police throughout the night, he said. One person was taken into custody at the scene around 6 a.m. for questioning.
"Little by little, we're putting it together," Blommel said. "We're a long ways away from figuring out what happened here."
Blommel said officers did not find any weapons at the scene.
He said the victim's name would not be released until family was notified.
UPDATE at 4:32 a.m.: Police say a man was shot and killed in a field in the 1700 Block of Banker Place in Dayton.
The shooting happened just before 2 a.m. Police say they do not have a suspect at this time. The shooting is still under investigation.
