The third defendant in a June 2012 Riverside slaying has been convicted by a jury on charges of murder and aggravated robbery.
Richard Anthony "Chicago" Western, 22, of Clayton, was convicted by a Montgomery County Common Pleas jury in the shooting of 20-year-old Geoffrey Andrews. The killing occurred in the victim's residence, the Amhurst Apartment complex, 4217 Amston Drive.
Western was captured in June by the Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team and confessed his role in the slaying. Police said he walked into the apartment and fired a handgun several times.
Authorities have linked Western to the Dayton area Black Gangster Disciples.
The jury began deliberating Thursday night and reconvened Friday morning before returning its verdict in Riverside's first homicide of 2012 and the first in that city in five years.
Western's tour through the criminal justice system is not complete, as county Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr.s' office said Western is to be tried on Christmas Eve on a charge of having a weapon as a felon.
Another of the defendants, LeMichael Jones, a juvenile from Riverside at the time of the slaying, was sentenced Friday to 15 years in prison for his plea of guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter and robbery.
A third defendant, James "Blood" Dunson, of Dayton, was sentenced in March to 15 years to life in prison after a jury convicted him in February on charges of murder and aggravated robbery. Dunson and Jones waited in a getaway car for Western, police said.
Western, Jones and Dunson will have three years added to their sentences because a firearm was used in the commission of the crime, the prosecutor's office said.
On June 15, 2012, all three went to Andrews's home to rob him. Andrews was shot during the robbery. Police have said Andrews was a known marijuana dealer and that all three men knew him. Andrews was with two other friends when he was shot, police have said.
