Suspect in Purdue shooting is from Dayton area

The man Indiana police said is the suspect in today's shooting at Purdue University is from the Dayton area.

Cody Cousins, 23, formerly of Clearcreek Twp. and Springboro High School graduate, was named as the shooter in today's incident at Purdue University.

Police said the gunman shot and killed another man inside Purdue's electrical engineering building.

Police said the suspect appeared to just target the one victim then left the building. He was arrested by local police.

The university canceled classes for the rest of Tuesday and Wednesday. Counselors are being made available to the students in the wake of the shooting.

Purdue students were first notified of a reported shooting at the electrical engineering building at approximately 1 p.m.

A subsequent campus-wide alert informed students that one person was taken into custody, the building was closed and police continue to secure the area.
