Standoff ends with no one in custody

A four-hour standoff with a potentially violent suspect just ended without anyone in custody.

Miami Twp. police surrounded an apartment on Bishop Drive after they got an anonymous tip that a person wanted in a fatal road rage incident might be inside.

A male inside the apartment answered "Who is it?" when police first knocked on the apartment door, they said. But they lost contact with the suspect, called in SWAT and got a search warrant.

Around 5 a.m., they went inside but found the apartment empty. It is unclear when or how the man escaped, they said.

Police said a vehicle in the parking lot of the complex matches a description in the road rage incident.

Jason Behnken, of Miamisburg, was the victim. He died on Sunday, Aug. 31, after he was beaten with a pipe in Miami Twp.

Crews remain on scene to air out the apartment. SWAT used tear gas to try to drive the suspect out. The five units in the building were evacuated during the standoff.
