Springfield police investigate arson that damaged vehicles

Springfield police are investigating an arson from Sunday evening in the 800 block of Mound Street.

Around 10:35 p.m. Jan. 29, police were called to the area after a fire in a detached garage damaged the structure and three vehicles.

Victims included a 73-year-old male; 44-year-old woman and 26-year-old woman, all whom had lost property in the fire.

Also damaged was a motorcycle and the garage structure. There was also heat damage to the north side of a residence.

Burned was a 2007 Ford Van destroyed the driveway. Next to it, a 2002 Ford CRO was damaged by fire, according to the police report.

One of the victims told police she had heard a car pull up outside and saw a person get out of the white vehicle. She saw someone open the driver's side door of a van in the driveway and toss something inside. A few minutes later the witness saw an orange glow and a fire had started.
