Security guard accused in thefts from apartments

A former security guard for an apartment complex has been charged in multiple thefts from residents.

Jennifer Haney, 38, is in Montgomery County Jail on four felony charges of burglary.

She was arrested Wednesday afternoon, along with David C. Haney, 53, who’s in jail on a felony charge of receiving stolen property.

The victim, a 35-year-old woman, said an estimated $2,000 in jewelry was stolen from a jewelry box in her bedroom, including a white gold diamond engagement ring, antique vintage jewelry and a white gold pearl ring with diamond.

One of the thefts Jennifer Haney is accused in happened Oct. 16 at an apartment in the 600 block of Saint Joseph Avenue in Dayton, according to a police report.

The victim told police in October she suspected Jennifer Haney, because she’d worked as a security guard for her apartment complex. The security guards have master keys for all the apartments, the woman told police. Haney had recently been fired for an unknown reason.

In two other theft incidents, Haney is accused of stealing cash and a ring from a 22-year-old female also living at the apartment complex in 600 block of Saint Joseph Avenue.

As well, she’s accused of stealing cigarettes and a McDonalds gift card from a 21-year-old female in a different apartment.
