"Early indications are that everybody involved is known to one another," said Capt. Steve Lane of Xenia Police Division. "We're not sure of any relationships at this point."Police and emergency personnel were dispatched to East Main Street around 7:49 a.m. for a reported shooting.

Police said the shooting was the result of an argument between the victim and the two suspects.

“During the argument Mr. Smith was shot in the chest,” police said in a prepared statement. “The suspects then fled the residence in a vehicle.  A witness at the home was able to get a good description of the vehicle the suspects were fleeing in.”

Both Gibson and Gill were taken into custody following a traffic stop in the area of West Ankeney Mill Road.

Gibson is charged with one count of felonious assault and Gill is charged with one count of complicity to felonious assault.

“We’re happy to say shootings in Xenia are rare,” Lane said. “There’s no reason to believe this is a random offense.”
