Mercedes smashes into Kettering Post Office

UPDATE @ 2 p.m.

The building did not sustain any structural damage, but a glass front door and some side light windows will need replaced at a cost $2,000 to $3,000, according to a Kettering fire official.

An older woman was the driver. She was not injured, according to the official.

U.S. Postal Service officials will need to assess the damage to determine when the office will reopen.

A Mercedes Benz smashed into the glass entrance at the U.S. Post Office in Kettering and closed the facility to the public on Saturday.

Police caution tape was up around the front of the post office, at 1740 E. Stroop Road, where glass was shattered from the impact.

A hand-written note informed the public that the office was closed.

Many residents pulled into the parking lot after the incident wondering when they can get their mail.

The office was to be open until 4 p.m. today.
