A federal judge sent a 38-year-old Wilmington man to prison Wednesday for stealing the money he was supposed to manage for a former NFL player.
Joshua Knisley was sentenced to 15 months in prison with restitution to be determined after being convicted of five felony counts of federal money crimes related to the bilking of former NFLer Damion McIntosh.
Knisley was originally indicted on 28 counts in November 2013.
Authorities said Knisley was hired to take care of the finances of McIntosh, a former offensive tackle who played with various NFL teams from 2000 to 2009.
Knisley defrauded McIntosh in an investment into a retail boat business, emptied his bank account, took loans out in his name and failed to report income to the Internal Revenue Service, according to authorities.
