Man, 20, jailed in Piqua Fountain Park shooting

Suspect search yields drugs, 2 arrests unrelated to shooting.

UPDATE @ 9:15 p.m.: A 20-year-old Dayton man remains in the Miami County Jail on a charge of attempted murder in the shooting of 19-year-old Treshon Whitson of Troy at Fountain Park in Piqua.

Markell Moore was booked into jail Wednesday morning following a search executed at a house in the 500 block of Walnut Street.

Steven Porter, a contractor from Piqua who moved Moore’s mother into the house, said the shooting arose from a disagreement over a female acquaintance.

Whitson is no longer listed as a patient at Miami Valley Hospital, an official said tonight. He was shot at least once in the neck, police said.

Police are still looking for the gun. Residents in the area including the 1100 block of Vine Street to the house on Walnut Street are asked to check their property for the weapon. If found, citizens are asked to contact police at 440-9911 or dial 9-1-1.

The search of the house on Walnut Street yielded two arrests and the seizure of six to eight capsules of possible heroin, all unrelated to the investigation into the shooting, Police Chief Bruce Jamison said in a prepared statement. The two people arrested are:

  • Stacy Clark, 44, of Piqua, was wanted on warrants out of Montgomery County. There was no online record of her in either the Montgomery or Miami County jails.
  • Gregory E. S. Howery, 28, also of Piqua, wanted on a warrant out of Wood County. He remained in the Miami County Jail, according to online records.
