Man arrested after girlfriend’s fatal OD in Lebanon

The boyfriend of a woman who died of an apparent heroin overdose is scheduled to appear in court this afternoon.

Steven K. Lay, 34, was booked early Wednesday into the Warren County Jail on suspicion of tampering with evidence, a felony, and two counts of endangering children, both misdemeanors. He is being held on $20,000 cash-only bond, online jail records show.

He was arrested after Lebanon police and medics responded shortly after 10:30 p.m. Tuesday to an apartment at 1110 E. Main St. Inside, a woman identified as 34-year-old Shawna L. Mitchell was found deceased, Lebanon police said.

Mitchell’s two children, ages 10 and 1, were inside the apartment, along with Lay, police said.

The investigation is ongoing and no further details were available.
