In Kettering, Van Buren Middle School students were briefly evacuated after a bomb threat Friday morning. One parent said the evacuation before noon was sending students to the Roush stadium football field behind the school, which is on Shroyer Rd.
The school district confirmed that a student admitted he had scratched the message onto a bathroom wall and there was no real threat.
According to Kari Basson, Kettering School District Spokeswoman, police spoke to the student at length.
"He admitted that there was no real threat. He said that he had scratched the threat onto the bathroom wall, and that there was no bomb," Basson said.
Kettering police are going to follow up with the students and his parents.
"I'm not sure what the consequences are. I'm hoping that whatever it is, that the news gets out, so people know that there are consequences to doing this," said Basson.
She explained that students whose parents picked them up and took them home are not going to be docked for missing school. The students who remained went back to class.
This is the second bomb scare in the Kettering district this week. Oakview Elementary School was evacuated Thursday after a bomb threat was found written in crayon on a wall. It was discovered at the end of the day, so evacuated students were able to go home at the usual time. Police checked the school thoroughly before allowing students to reenter Friday morning.
