A 30-year-old male inmate at the Montgomery County Jail suffered a beating by four other inmates, one of whom had recently been transferred from Ohio’s most violent prison, according to a report from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
The man who was beaten, Joshua Russell Bryant, who is serving a term for reckless operation, told the investigator on Jan. 25 he received a care package and was confronted by four inmates who demanded he give them the goods, according to the report.
The four inmates surrounded Bryant in his jail cell and when he refused to give them anything, he was struck from behind and went to the floor where he was kicked by the other inmates, according to the report.
The victim suffered lacerations, bruising and swelling about the head and face, but he was able to be interviewed and give a written statement to a deputy the next day, according to the report.
The sheriff’s office did not release the identities of the alleged attackers, but their report states that the one who initiated the attack from behind had recently been transferred from LCI in Turtlecreek Twp.
According to a report released Tuesday by the Correctional Institution Inspection Committee, LCI had the highest incidents of violence among all Ohio prisons over a three-year period.
The deputy’s report was submitted to the sheriff’s office special investigations unit.
