House in Dayton boarded up after police raid

Suspicious person call led to raid on Oregon Historic District address.

UPDATE @ 10:30 p.m. (May 18): A call about a suspicious person led Dayton police to the Oregon Historic District residence on Brown Street that the city boarded up just hours after police seized drugs and pit bulls from the address.

“We have been working with both the city of Dayton housing department as well as the police department for a number of years with concerns we’ve had on this house,” Katie Joseph, Oregon Historic District Society president, told News Center 7’s Natalie Jovonovich on Wednesday.

“They’ve been very responsive and been keeping us extremely informed as to the status of things that were going on with it.

“So we’re pleased at the outcome that has occurred this week and we hope that as the process moves forward that this house can be turned into another jewel that we have here in the neighborhood.”

Joseph said, “The justice process I guess takes a bit of time, but [police have] been keeping us informed a long the way and have been listening to our concerns.”

Tuesday morning, police went to 133 Brown St. on a suspicious person call and ended up inside the residence, where they observed “multiple people” and “felony drugs and drug paraphernalia.”

Officers then gave nuisance abatement paperwork to all the people there, including one man taken into custody on a misdemeanor charge of obstructing official business after he refused to give them his name, Christopher Miles. Then they discovered Miles was wanted because he failed to appear in court on a traffic case.

Also Tuesday, Shane Kintz, 39, was arrested on a felony drug possession charge after Dayton officers found him in a car parked behind 133 Brown St. The officer who submitted the incident report wrote that police were “checking the area due to numerous drug complaints at 133 Brown, and recent burglaries in the area.”

When police checked and discovered Kintz’s driver’s license had been suspended, an officer searched the vehicle (with permission) and found a backpack that contained “a large plastic baggie containing a green leafy substance” he said he recognized as marijuana, as well as suspected mushrooms and crystal meth. In Kintz’s front pants pocket, police said they found suspected meth and more marijuana.

Police had the vehicle towed.

FIRST REPORT (May 17)

A house in the Dayton Oregon Historic District residence has been boarded up following a police raid that netted drugs and pit bulls.

Tom Oppy, an inspector with the city’s housing department, said deplorable conditions found at 133-135 Brown St. prompted the city to board up the property late Tuesday afternoon.

Residents in the neighborhood were sent an email about the raid that said “a large amount of drugs and seven pit bulls were found in the house.”

The police department is encouraging action from the residents to “pressure the city to follow through with nuisance proceedings,” according to the email.
