A Dayton man jumped out of a moving vehicle Saturday afternoon that struck a cruiser and nearly hit a Franklin police officer.
Tavon Wallace, 23, was wanted for a domestic violence warrant when police were called to an “active domestic disturbance” outside an apartment on Victory Lane, according to the Franklin Division of Police.
Before officers arrived, the woman said Wallace had just taken her vehicle.
Officer Amanda Myers, one of the first to arrive, saw the victim’s vehicle coming toward her, so she activated her cruiser’s emergency lights in the intersection and got out. While the vehicle was still in motion, police said Wallace jumped out and ran. The vehicle then struck Myers’ cruiser and continued toward an apartment before it was stopped by a large rock and satellite antenna, police said.
Myers then ran after Wallace but lost sight of him. Franklin and Carlisle officers secured the area and a Mason K-9 unit tracked the suspect, who was found in the area of David Boulevard. He was taken into custody without incident and later booked into the Warren County Jail.
Wallace is behind held without bond on suspicion of assault on a police officer, motor vehicle theft and obstructing official business pending his Tuesday arraignment, according to police and online jail records. He also had an active warrant for domestic violence out of Franklin Municipal Court, police said.
