A Greenville father is ordered by the city to move or remove his child's playhouse on his property.
Ralph Helmer told us he built the playhouse on his corner lot on 13th Street five feet off the ground, right next to his house so his child and neighborhood kids could have a safe place to play.
Helmer said there are 13 registered sex offenders living within a half mile of his home, and he's concerned about drug activity in the area.
Greenville city officials said Helmer failed to get a building permit and ignored a stop building order. Officials said the playhouse is in his front yard, too close to the house, and too far off the ground.
Helmer was denied a zoning variance and given 30 days to remove the structure or put it in his backyard.
Today, Thursday, Sept. 18 was the final day for Helmer to comply with the city's orders and avoid a $500-a-day fine.
