Family Dollar employee bitten by thief

A woman bit a Family Dollar employee's face after trying to rob the store on Saturday.

At 3:46 p.m., Dayton police were called to the store at 3222 Salem Ave. on reports of an assault.

Two female employees told officers a customer had just fled the store after a tussle, according to a police report.

The suspect, described as a known thief by employees, tried to leave the store with a bag of stolen merchandise but was stopped at the front door. The employees blocked her exit, leading to a physical altercation that left one employee with a half-inch bite mark on her right cheek and the other with an injured knee.

The suspect dropped her bag of items before running from the store, heading west on Hillcrest Avenue.

Investigators watched surveillance video, showing the entire incident. No arrests have been made but officers have a physical description to work from.

$145 in merchanise was recovered, including socks, curtains and candles.
