Dayton landlord discovers small grow operation

A Dayton landlord discovered a small marijuana grow operation during a house inspection this week.

Dayton police were called about 10 a.m. May 23 to the 1500 block of W. Second Street after the landlord found five to six marijuana plants in a basement. There were also grow lights, according to a police report.

Harold Ray, 49, is in Montgomery County Jail on charges of illegal manufacturing of drugs and possession of drugs.

Dayton police also found 0.11 grams of suspected crack on top of a cell phone in the kitchen. That substance was tested and came back positive for crack, according to police.

Ray reportedly admitted to police the plants were his, and that they’re used for recreational use.
